The marine iguana is an amazing animal. This creature is endemic to the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador, and is the only Iguana species that can not only swim, but dive underwater. First studied by Charles Darwin when he visited the Galapagos in 1835, these iguanas have numerous adaptions that make up even for their not so nice looks.

ABOUT

The Marine Iguana is not necessarily a nice looking animal, even charles Darwin called them "hideous-looking" and "most disgusting, clumsy lizards." but it is impossible to focus entirely on the looks with the amazing adaptions that lay hidden inside. These animals can be underwater for half an hour!

The Marine Iguanas adaptions allow it to go underwater, buteven then many of them dont dare to. it is only the largest and strongest that dare to dive into treacherous ocean from the rocky drop offs into the cold ocean that surrounds them.  if an iguana stays in the water to long, its muscles could freeze
